MedscapeIndia’s Call to Action: MPs and Healthcare Fraternity Unite, Urge Decisive Government Action on Healthcare Safety

New Delhi, March 2026: What began on Doctors’ Day 2023 as a focused initiative by Dr Sunita Dube, Radiologist and Chairperson of MedscapeIndia–AMET, has today evolved into a powerful nationwide movement for healthcare safety extending its impact across 135+ countries.

Driven by Dr. Dube’s consistent efforts, policy advocacy, and on-ground engagement, the initiative has brought healthcare safety to the forefront of national conversation highlighting not just the safety of healthcare professionals, but also its direct link to patient trust, quality care, and even sensitive areas like fertility care, where safety, trust, and emotional security are critical.

At its core lies an urgent truth: those who save lives must feel safe while doing so.

The initiative has received the support of over 73 Members of Parliament, with 31 MPs formally joining the MP Forum for Safety of Healthcare Professionals reflecting a rare, unified, cross-party commitment.

Notably, since 2023, the issue of healthcare safety has been raised over 20 times in Parliament, underscoring the growing urgency and sustained political attention towards creating a safer healthcare ecosystem.

This movement extends far beyond Parliament. More than 58 national healthcare associations and over 8,200 healthcare institutions have aligned with the initiative making it one of the most comprehensive multi-stakeholder campaigns in India’s healthcare landscape.

Recent parliamentary interventions by Dr Laxmikant Bajpai, including multiple representations by Dr. Fauzia Khan, have emphasized the urgent need for a central legislation and a dedicated healthcare tribunal, with formal submissions addressed to Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda.

Deliberations with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Parliamentary Standing Committees have already acknowledged the need for a national framework. The proposed reforms have been under structured discussion for over three years through petitions, parliamentary questions, and committee-level engagements.

Policy circles increasingly recognize that:

  • A uniform national framework is essential
  • A healthcare tribunal can ensure faster and fairer grievance resolution
  • Safety must protect both healthcare professionals and patients, rebuilding trust across the ecosystem

Despite this progress, urgency continues to rise. Across hospitals and clinics, healthcare professionals face aggression while delivering critical care, while patients and families demand transparency and accountability.

MedscapeIndia’s initiative bridges both needs—advocating a 360-degree reform model that strengthens safety, accountability, and trust across healthcare systems, including critical segments like emergency care and fertility treatment.

For nearly two decades, MedscapeIndia has led impactful healthcare advocacy. Established in 2006, it has spearheaded initiatives such as the Fit India Movement, the “We Doctors” COVID-19 campaign, the Save the Girl Child initiative, cancer awareness drives, and large-scale CPR training programs.

“This is not about doctors alone. This is about the dignity of care,” said Dr. Dube.

“When a doctor feels secure, a patient feels safer. When the system is fair, trust is restored. The country has spoken, institutions have aligned, and the policy intent is clear. This is the moment to act.”

She further emphasized that while legislative processes continue, healthcare professionals remain on the frontlines under risk making timely action critical for national well-being.

The initiative has also received recognition at the level of the President of India, reinforcing its national significance.

With Parliament in session, MedscapeIndia–AMET makes a strong and constructive appeal: to translate this convergence of public need, political will, and policy alignment into decisive legislative action.

The healthcare community is not protesting it is partnering, ready to support reform and nation-building.

Because healthcare safety is not a sectoral issue. It is a national responsibility.
